How to Reprogram a Skoda Key Fob

Many people are unsure of how to reprogram their car key fobs, when they aren't sure the reason why it stopped working. This is common, as key fobs are frequently jostled around and the buttons can break or become jammed.

The first thing you should try is to change the battery. If that doesn't work, then it might be time to consider a replacement.

1. Turn the Ignition Off

If your key fob stopped working in the last few days, it's likely that the battery needs be replaced. The batteries are affordable and easy to replace and this should be your first step before you attempt to reprogram the key.


Make sure that the car is switched off and all doors are closed. Then you can insert your current key into the ignition and switch it to the "On" position. Do not switch off the engine.

Press  The Key Lab  on your keyfob after five minutes. You will hear the car's locks unlock and lock to confirm that you succeeded in entering programming mode. You can now use the key fob to lock and unlock the car, and also programme additional remotes. This method can be used to reset a damaged or malfunctioning remote. This could be required if you have dropped, and stepped on, or exposed the key fob to water.

2. Turn the ignition on.

You only have a few seconds to reprogram your key fobs properly. First, you need to switch on the ignition. This will reset your computer and give you a fresh start.

Close all the doors to your car. You do not want any of the doors to be opened during this process, as it could interfere with the programming. Once you have shut all the doors, insert the key that is the primary one into the ignition and switch it to the "On" position.

Press the button for locking on the fob six times in 10 seconds after the engine has started. If you hear your car's doors unlocking this means that the mode of programming has been successful. Repeat the procedure for any other remotes that you need to program. Be sure to program each remote as quickly as you've completed the previous one. Delay could cause it to fail.

3. Press the Lock Button

The key fob can be used as a small remote that can be used to lock and unlock the car. It also has a panic alarm that can be used to contact help in an emergency. There are a variety of reasons your key fob may stop working, including the battery being dead or damage to the buttons.

If the key fob in your car isn't working correctly, you can try to reprogram it following the steps below. This method works with the majority of cars. However it is imperative that you follow the instructions in the manual for your vehicle.

4. Unlock the Lock Button

To press the lock button in your car, you'll need to make use of a long and thin tool. A wire coat hanger is usually the best option because it's both thin and long.

5. Press the Panic Button

Open the key fob, and separate the transmitter portion from the main portion. Take the old battery out of the transmitter and replace it with a new one. Reassemble the key fob and try out its locking and unlocking functions. If this doesn't work you must restart the reprogramming process or call a locksmith local to you.

6. Press the Lock Button

Updated April 17th, 2023: If your key fob isn't able to unlock doors, it's time to replace your button-cell battery. This small silver coin-shaped battery is usually easy to replace using tiny screwdrivers or fingernails and is able to pop in and out.

Follow the steps below to modify your key fob. Be sure to keep all doors shut, since leaving one open could interfere with the process. After that, turn the ignition to "On" but do not start the engine.

Press the lock button on the key fob after five seconds following it is in programming mode. You should hear a sound when the car locks turn and confirm the success of the procedure. Repeat the process for any additional remotes you want to program into the car. If the key fob still isn't working the issue could be a wire issue, an antenna issue, software issues or a damaged circuit. It may be necessary to take it to a dealer for reprogramming.
